Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the most commonly utilized form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States, focusing on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Doctors of Chiropractic perform examinations, diagnose conditions, and determine appropriate and safe treatment plans utilizing an effective, hands-on approach without the use of drugs or surgery. At Gallagher Performance, chiropractic care incorporates physical evaluations, chiropractic adjustments, functional rehabilitation, myofascial release, neurodynamic mobilizations, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) Vojta Therapy.
What is DNS or Vojta Therapy?
DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization) and Vojta therapy are a highly advanced approaches for treatment of back pain and any variety of other neuromuscular conditions. These techniques are based on neuroplasticity of the human nervous system and evoke ideal movement patterns through either manual stimulation of developmental reflex zones or guided developmental exercises. These exercises are trained to improve neuromuscular control. DNS and Volta therapy are highly effective in targeting the source of musculoskeletal problems rather than their manifestations. The system of analysis molds the rehabilitation program to strengthen and coordinate innate patterns of movement. The chiropractor at Gallagher Performance has extensive training from some of the best DNS and Vojta therapists in the world.
What are some common conditions that chiropractic is effective in treating?
Randomized controlled trials support the efficacy of chiropractic treatment for common acute and chronic conditions such as headaches, neck pain and low back pain. Patients have found chiropractic care to be helpful in the treatment of disc injuries, sciatic pain, strain and sprain injuries, nerve pain, pinched nerves, vertigo, TMJ, ear infections, plantar fasciitis, asthma, ADHD, whiplash, scoliosis, IT band syndrome, injuries from auto accidents, and symptoms associated with pregnancy. Common overuse conditions such rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other forms of tendonitis also respond well to chiropractic treatment.
How often do I need to see a chiropractor?
Many of heard that once you go to a chiropractor you have to go for life. The same thing can be said of a many healthcare providers, such as regular check-ups with your MD or your dentist. Many people choose to continue getting periodic adjustments and chiropractic therapy to help them feel better. Others may decide to see us from time to time for episodes of neck or back pain. It’s your choice, we are here to support you in the pursuit of living a healthier life.
What makes chiropractic care at Gallagher Performance different?
At Gallagher Performance, we strive to identify the repetitive movements and postural abnormalities that cause pain and discomfort by performing thorough and detailed examinations. Evaluations and customized treatment plans aim to identify the underlying cause of your condition rather than merely alleviating symptoms. This enables us to create a treatment plan, which targets each patient’s pain generators. We stress a collective and active approach on the part of each of our patients through education. By clearly educating each patient on why they are performing their prescribed exercises or stretches, the focus becomes about patient empowerment and providing them with a sense of what they can do for themselves. This typically results in great patient compliance and shorter treatment plans, with most patients seeing noticeable changes in 4-8 treatments. Some patients may even experience significant changes in 1-2 treatments. At GP, we work for the individual and not on the individual. Our focus is on your goals and your outcomes.
Can children benefit from chiropractic care?
Chiropractic and other forms of therapy can be beneficial in helping children through the developmental process and avoid issues down the road. Also young athletes can see tremendous benefit. Nearly all professional teams utilize chiropractic as part of their programs and it be just as beneficial for young athletes as well. The great thing about children is that they adapt very quickly and treatment plans are often shorter.
Do chiropractors refer patients to other specialists?
Yes. Like other doctors, chiropractors belong to a large and growing network of health-care professionals and make referrals for patients when necessary. At Gallagher Performance, we will not hesitate to make a referral when it’s in a patient’s best interest.

Services

What is the benefit of massage therapy?

Massage or myofascial release deals with adhesions that develop either within a single muscle or between adjacent muscles and other forms of connective tissue. Many athletes and patients experience accumulative or overuse trauma (ex: plantar fasciitis due to running or carpal tunnel syndrome due to prolonged computer/desk work). The goal becomes to work a muscle to remove adhesions, thus decreasing pain and improving range of motion, strength, and coordination of movement.

How are the training services at Gallagher Performance different?
At Gallagher Performance, every client begins with a comprehensive physical assessment. Your individualized training and nutrition materials will be customized to meet your goals. The process includes looking at how you move through your entire body, understanding your injury history, training experience, primary sport(s) played, and other factors. You will also have the chance to meet our staff to ensure that you are comfortable when you return for future training sessions.

All the information gathered during your initial assessment is used to design a personalized training program. We take time to ensure that specialized attention is given to each program design. As a result, your individualized training and nutrition materials will be provided upon return for your second visit. Clients are closely coached through the entirety of their program to maximize results.
What is Long-Term Athletic Development?
Long-term athlete development is a process that occurs over many years. This is not an “8 week program”. Rather, it starts at an early age and continues on into adulthood. It is not simply a linear process, but is one that must be highly individualized to assist the athlete in reaching their full potential.

When it comes to athletics, critical development begins at a very early age. As children mature, they progress through important developmental stages during their growth and maturation process. If long-term athletic development is of any importance to the coach, parent, or athlete, certain aspects of these stages must be addressed at appropriate time periods, otherwise the chances of the athlete reaching elite status is reduced.

Similar to other facilities and organizations that place importance on long-term athlete development, the model used at Gallagher Performance began with a review of research and methods utilized in child and athletic development around the world. Through the review of current and past research/methods used with elite athletes and even military special operations, it was concluded that to truly address athlete development, a new way of looking at how to properly structure “strength and conditioning” programs must be considered.

The greatest challenge to coaches, parents, and athletes is the understanding of how difficult this process is. Athletes are dealing with massive changes in physical attributes, brain function, and sport skill acquisition. These all must be managed simultaneously while stressing the concepts of hard work in a positive environment.
